What Else is On? April 30 – May 6, 2014

This week’s television features the IHeartRadio Music Awards, the Kentucky Derby, the returns of Louie and 24, and the first semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest. Here’s what else is on.

Thursday, May 1

IHeartRadio Music Awards — NBC has taken over the Clear Channel radio conglomerate’s award festivities from the CW (where it had been underperforming). Perhaps expanding to three hours is what the audience wanted? We’ll find out when the special airs live at 8pm Eastern.

Saturday, May 3

Kentucky Derby — The 140th annual Run for the Roses will feature fashion commentary from Johnny Weir and Tara Lipinski, which is the most brilliant programming decision NBC has made in months. Coverage begins at 4pm Eastern, with post time at approximately 6:20pm.

OMG! EMT! — This series features emergency medical technicians recounting their craziest calls in the line of duty. If it has the same production of Rescue 911, we may be in business. The show debuts at 10pm.

Monday, May 5

24: Live Another Day — Kiefer Sutherland returns as Jack Bauer in a UK-based international terrorism storyline. Each episode will still cover an hour in the longest day ever, but with only 12 episodes there will be some leaps in the timeline (presumably for bathroom breaks and afternoon tea). The countdown begins with back-to-back episodes on Fox at 8pm.

Louie — Also making a long-awaited return to television is Louis CK’s slice of life series on FX. It has been over a year-and-a-half since the last episode aired, so we’ll be getting seven weeks of back-to-back episodes at 10pm.

Tuesday, May 6

Eurovision Song Contest First Semi-Final — After weeks and months of speculation and the selection of 37 entries, the Eurovision competition is finally here. Now you can see what Ben and I have been prattling on about for the last month—you won’t be disappointed!1 The semi-final, which you can watch on the Eurovision website, airs live at 3pm Eastern.
